Life Expectancy:
The data cartridge shall comply with the requirements of this specification as follows:
  • Testing Environment: 5,000 tape passes
  • Operating Environment: 5,000 tape passes

  • Operating Environment:
  • Operating Temperature: 41°F to 113°F (5°C to 45°C)
  • Relative Humidity (RH): 20% to 80% noncondensing
  • Maximum Wet Bulb Temperature: 79°F (29°C)

  • Conditioning:
    For satisfactory performance the cartridge must be conditioned by exposure to the operating environment for a period equal to or greater than the period it has been out of the operating environment, up to a maximum of eight hours, and by running the tape one complete end-to-end pass in any of the following cases:

    1. Each time it is inserted in the drive
    2. After prolonged operation over a limeted area
    3. After exposure to a temperature change greater than 30°F (16°C)
    4. After one hour of start-stop or shuffle operation
